SHORT SERMONS
Elder Louis Culver
"New Testament Christians were characterized by poverty and power; today's Christians are paralized by wealth and weakness." (cf. Matthew 6:19-34).
"Without the Way, there is no going; without the Truth, there is no knowing; without the Life, there is no living." (cf. John 14:1-6).
A Christian can, and should, learn the happy art of extracting good out of seeming evil and to grow tall by stooping." (cf. Genesis 50:20). A man is never taller than when he is upon his knees in prayer to God.
"Faith is to believe what we do not see, and the reward of this faith is to see what we believe." Augustine. (cf. Hebrews 11:1-40).
"He who is small in faith will never be great in anything but failure." - Anonymous. (cf. Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 16:8; Luke 12:28).
"Happiness is neither within us only, or without us; it is the union of ourselves with God." Pascal. (cf. Romans 14:16-19).
"Anxiety is a word of unbelief or unreasoning dread - We have no right to allow it. Full faith in God puts it to rest." - Horace Bushnell. (cf. John 14:1-4).
"Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons - but they are helpless against our prayers." - Sidlow Baxter. (cf. James 5:13-18).
"I often say my prayers,
But do I ever pray?
And do the wishes of my heart
Go with the words I say?
I may as well kneel down
And worship gods of stone,
As offer to the living God
A prayer of words alone."
"He who governed the world before I was born shall take care of it likewise when I am dead. My part is to improve the present moment." - John Wesley. (cf. Deuteronomy 10:12; Micah 6:8).
"What is false doctrine?" the teacher asked of her pupils. Up went a little boy's hand and there came this answer: "It's when the doctor gives the wrong stuff to people who are sick and they die." That's a pretty good description of messages given from the pulpit by so-called modernists.
