With Deepest Respect of Elder Lyvon Hendrix
One of our faithful servants of the Word of God has now been blessed to be with the Lord he preached about for over 35 years. Elder Lyvon Hendrix of Evergreen, Alabama was known for his easy, soft manner around everyone and his kind spirit. He was also a very able minister of the gospel, spending many hours in the study of God's word. He was born December 6, 1935 in Monroe County, Alabama and was ordained to the full work of the gospel ministry in 1970.
Elder Hendrix passed away Thursday night, December 8, 2005 after a short stay at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Ala. He suffered a severe stroke only two days after preaching a very able sermon the first Sunday in December at Consolation Primitive Baptist Church, Chickasaw, Ala., a church he pastored for many years. His last sermon will remain in the hearts of those present for a long time to come.
Elder Hendrix pastored for many years in the churches of the Antioch Association of South Alabama. At his passing he was pastoring Ramah Primitive Baptist Church in Lenox, Ala. and Consolation Primitive Baptist Church in Chickasaw, Ala. (north Mobile). Both churches will greatly miss his preaching and his service as a faithful pastor.
He leaves his faithful companion, Sister Bama (Etheridge) Hendrix, two daughters, Brenda Macks and Renae Jernigan; one son, Harvey Walters, all of Evergreen, Ala. Services were held Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2005 at 2.00 from the chapel of Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen, with burial at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Paul, Ala., east of Evergreen. Elder Kevin Fralick (Cantonment, Fla.) and Elder Howard Jernigan (Excel, Ala.) conducted the services. During his years of preaching, Elder Hendrix had also pastored Pleasant Grove, Antioch (Evergreen, Ala.), Macedonia (McKenzie, Ala.), and New Home (Monroeville, Ala.), all in the Antioch Association. In the Patsaliga Primitive Baptist Association of south central Alabama, he had pastored Goodhope, New Mt. Zion, and Lockhart.
Sixteen Primitive Baptist elders served as Honorary Pallbearers. Sister Hendrix commented at the grave side, "What a beautiful sight to see all of his fellow ministers lined up to pay their respects."
Brother Lyvon had preached often on the subject of "Faith," always making it fresh and enlightening by the inspiration of God's Spirit. He spoke of how faith in God would surely bring us through any trial or tribulation we may face in this world. Surely God was pleased with this good and faithful servant who fought a good fight and kept the
faith during the years of his ministry.
In loving memory of a faithful servant of God,
Elder Bobby Willis
Mobile, Alabama
