Thankful
Elder David P. Bridgman From his book...
Are you truly thankful this morning for the many blessings that are yours, regardless of your surroundings? It matters not who you are nor what your case may be. It is my honest opinion if you are reading this article, that God has come into your life. He has lighted you with the Holy Ghost, as He lights everyone that cometh into the world, everyone that is born again, born into the family of God.
If you are interested about heaven and heavenly things, desire to live a godly life, righteous life, desire to know more about God and the things pertaining to Him, that is the strongest evidence that you have already been born again; that you are an heir and a joint heir with Christ and His bride - the heirs of promise. This should always, regardless of what position you occupy in life, give you a heart of thankfulness. For it is certainly true that you will not be here in this old world but for a short time. You will soon fall asleep, to awake in that morning when Christ will come back to get you and take you home to that great possession that is yours free, (by grace), all of heaven is yours, too - not just a mere little cabin, a very small corner as some would have you believe.
Please remember you are not just an heir, but a joint heir. If you were merely an heir and not a joint heir, you might have such a small portion of heaven that you would never reap the full benefits of heaven. But, you are a joint heir, and have full privilege to all that heaven affords. There are no such things as high and low seats; some having a crown filled with stars and some no crown at all. God does not do things as little simple children. He has all knowledge and does
not give us according to our merits. For in nature there is none good. -Romans 3:10.
Some months ago a lawyer from Texas came to my place with a number of my neighbors. (I am a Justice of the Peace). He came to make known to them that they were heirs to property in Texas. They had a rich relative who had died and left this. Now they were only heirs - not joint heirs. When the lawyers get their part, all divided and subdivided, they will have only a small part, even though it was a large sum to start with. Had they been joint heirs, each one would have had full possession of it. As each member of our families has full access to all the rights and privileges of the home. Now that is what you have to be thankful for this morning, if you are interested in these things, as I first stated. There are a million things today we ought to be thankful for, and if we try, we can make it many more. If we seek to know the things our dear Savior is pleased for us to do and try each day and hour, as best we can, to do them, we are bound to be filled with a heart of thankfulness and will not be grumbling and complaining! Get us try to count our many blessings each morning and evening; and while we count them, recall that we are not worthy of them; but, since they are ours to share, give God all the praise, honor and glory for His goodness having followed us all the days of our life!
Submitted in love for the dear child of God everywhere.
