WALKING BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT

Elder Louis Culver

As we walk, let us walk by faith and not by sight. Just as so many in olden times walked by faith, we also must walk in the same manner. Many walked by faith, never having seen the Christ. Today we walk by faith, never having seen Him either.

The difference between those of old and us today is that they were looking forward to the first coming of the Christ, but we are looking forward to His second coming. While they had no proof that He could come, since He had never been here before, we are confident that He can and will come a second time since He has already been here once before.

The promises of God are sure and steadfast. God is not a changeable God, but is all truth and all honesty. He has never lied and He never will. When Jesus said that He would come a second time, it was and is just as sure as if it were already accomplished. In the mind and purpose of God it is as good as done.

In military training the soldiers are taught to march confidently, trusting that each step will be a sure, safe one. When marching at night, with no light, the soldier faces forward, never looking down, but going confidently forward. He marches with a sure step, never bouncing up and down, but placing each step with precision.

Just as the soldier in the military, the child of God is a soldier in the army of God. When we march confidently forward, going with the assurance that God will guide and direct our steps, we a marching with the assurance that He will. We are walking by faith and not by sight.

In Hebrews, chapter 11, we read of many saints who walked by faith and not by sight. They died, never having witnessed the object of their faith. This did not mean that the object of their faith was not there, for God is everywhere present and nowhere absent. So, let us walk by faith and not by sight if we have not yet been able to view the object of our faith. God is faithful and He is our truth and righteousness.
